Ku/Ka-Band Shared-Aperture Phased Array Antenna with Feedline Perpendicular to Radiation Aperture

The design of the feedline is one of the important issues in the design of the shared-aperture phased array antenna. In this work, a feedline perpendicular to the radiation aperture is proposed to feed the Ku/Ka-band shared-aperture phased array antenna. It is a good solution to the integration problem that the feedline of the shared-aperture phased array antenna. As an example, a 4×4-element Ku-band and 8×8-element Ku-band shared-aperture phased array antenna is designed. In order to verify the feasibility of the Ka-band array antenna feedline, an 8-element 1-D array prototype is fabricated and measured. The results demonstrate that the scheme is feasible and has good performance.

I. Introduction

At present, the radar and communication system show the development trend of the multi-band work. Therefore, the design of a multi-band phased array antenna has become a hot topic. Compared with the traditional multi-band array antenna, the multi-band shared-aperture antenna is capable of arranging different antennas operated at different bands in the same radiation aperture plane and they are able to be regulated independently with different feedlines [1]–[5].
