I. Introduction

he WDM-PON system with ASE-injected FPLD is applicable only if the FPLD exhibits a longitudinal-mode-free spectrum to achieve “color-free” operation. To release the mode selectivity and to enhance the channel compatibility, a wider gain spectrum of the FPLD is retrievable by reducing its end-face coating reflectance. In this work, we propose a quasi-colorless multimode weak-resonant-cavity Fabry-Perot laser diode (WRC-FPLD) transmitter with end-face reflectance of 1% and study the correlation between the ASE injection-locked WRC-FPLD mode number and the transmission performance in WDM-PON system. By detuning the biased current and operating temperature, the BER, extinction ratio, RMS jitter, and crossing percentage are discussed.
