Abstract:
In this article, we propose a novel concept of differentially encoded multi-carrier faster-than-Nyquist (DMFTN) signaling with noncoherent detection, which is robust against a detrimental doubly selective fading channel. In the proposed scheme, by approximately diagonalizing the FTN-specific inter-symbol interference (ISI) and noise correlation matrices, the traditional differential encoding and noncoherent detection algorithm is directly applied to MFTN signaling, which allows us to dispense with any channel state information at the receiver in a dispersive channel. Owing to the reduced frame duration of MFTN signaling, our proposed DMFTN scheme is capable of mitigating detrimental Doppler effects compared to the traditional differentially encoded orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing scheme.
