In this paper, we present a techno-economic analysis of providing a Cooperative, Connected and Automated Mobility (CCAM) use case, namely Cooperative Lane Merging (CLM), in a cross-border environment. Multiple network deployment scenarios are proposed to provide Vehicle to Infrastructure (V2I) connectivity with respect to PC5 Mode 4 – enabled RSUs. Total cost of Ownership (TCO) model together with...Show More
Certification is the means to promote excellence through adherence to best practices, and ensure the appropriate security and transparency, in alignment to regulations set by the market and (various levels of) administrations. In the mobile telecommunications domain, certification for the radio equipment and user terminals has been a fundamental practice. With the 3GPP5G specifications, a novel co...Show More
An end-pumped actively Q-switched Nd:YAG laser using a multisegmented crystal rod as laser active material, directly pumped to the upper laser level by an 885-nm emitting diode is demonstrated. The Nd:YAG crystal was pumped both in CW and quasi-CW mode. The maximum energy per pulse obtained was 2.57 mJ at 1 kHz, with an overall efficiency of \sim 7.5 %. The pulse duration was 22-ns full-width...Show More
This paper presents an overview of the existing high altitude platform (HAP) systems, and analyzes their application on different network types, such as two way (hybrid) communication networks, intelligent transportation systems, environmental monitoring, etc. Since HAPs have specific inherent advantages, their use can be widespread in future applications and networks. This paper focuses on the te...Show More
This paper investigates the use of multiple-layered video streaming over satellite communication channels by means of Scalable Video Coding (SVC). Simulations based on Gilbert-Elliot 2-state channel model are used to compare single-layered MPEG4-AVC/H.264 video with two-layered scalable video based on H.264. Resulting PSNR results show more superior aggregate video quality in the 2-layered case.Show More
Two versions of a preconditioning procedure are described for a class of two-dimensional scattering problems, when the latter are solved via the Method of Auxiliary Sources (MAS). The method is useful for the case of shrinking auxiliary surfaces, i.e. when the linear system may become ill-conditioned. If the cross sectional boundary can be regarded as a deformation of a circle, the MAS matrix is s...Show More
Ferroelectric materials have been gaining much interest over the last decades due to the unique operational characteristics they demonstrate, when a dc electric field is applied. This paper investigates the scattering analysis of electromagnetic waves from materials with high permittivity that follows a linear spatial variation along one axis. The surface integral equation (SIE) and volume integra...Show More
The computational costs of three numerical techniques used in electromagnetics, namely the moment method (MoM), the method of auxiliary sources (MAS), and its modified version (MMAS), are estimated for various calculation schemes and configurations. Both surface and volumetric problems are considered. The number of multiplications required for the system-matrix fill is calculated and added to the ...Show More
