Improving the Quality of IT Students Education: the Ukrainian Experience

Innovative development of the country depends on the creation and implementation of modern information technologies in all spheres of economy and public life. Competitiveness of the country is possible only if there are highly qualified and educated specialists who are able to develop and implement such technologies in different sectors of the economy. IT education plays a significant role in providing the state with IT specialists.The state of IT education in the Ukrainian universities is considered in the paper. Problems of the education quality of IT-students are analyzed. The forms of the cooperation between Ukrainian universities and leading IT companies within the triple helix model are discussed as one of the ways of improving the quality of education for students of IT specialties. Significant attention is paid to the team work on charitable projects.

I. Introduction

Ukrainian IT education is being actively developed. The number of IT graduates increases annually. According to the data of IT Ukraine Association, a 0.58% increase of IT-students was observed in 2017-2021, a +8.5% increase is predicted in 2022-2025 [1]. New computer specialties are announced, universities accredit new educational programs for such specialties. In 2022-2025, at least 80 thousands of students will obtain a bachelor's degree.
