Abstract:
In most of the space systems and space applications, it is not viable to fully seal all external structural enclosures at panel level to maintain a homogenous Faraday cage solution. Hence, it is essential to perform a realistic characterization of the Shielding Effectiveness (SE) of the additional external elements utilized to provide electromagnetic protection. This paper presents, in the frame of the Heinrich Hertz H2Sat mission at OHB, an analysis via different modelling techniques, together with the tests, on various configurations of multilayer insulation (MLI) types which were used for passive thermal control. To conclude, a final correlation exercise of both approaches is carried out, together with a comparison between single and overlapped shields.
