Study on Fault Diagnosis of Metal Oxide Surge Arrester Based on Infrared Detection and Leakage Current Detection

As an efficient and safe non-contact live detection method, infrared detection technology is widely used in MOA state detection. However, due to the limitations of this detection method and the low detection accuracy, it has caused a loss of manpower and material resources. This paper proposes a multi-criteria joint detection method based on infrared detection and leakage current detection, which can effectively judge the defects of the arrester, avoid the uncertainty of infrared detection, and solve the problem that the leakage current detection cannot determine the fault location. Most importantly, it improves the accuracy of detection and greatly reduces the workload of equipment maintenance personnel.

I. Introduction

Metal oxide arrester (MOA) is the main equipment to limit overvoltage in power grid [1]–[3]. And it is widely used in the 3.3 ~ 750 kV power system because of its ideal nonlinear volt-ampere characteristics, as well as many advantages such as small volume, light weight, long service life and strong pollution resistance [4]–[6].
