I. Introduction
Image segmentation entails pixel-level labeling of images to obtain a representation of data that are more meaningful and easier to analyze for a specific purpose. Ultrasound image segmentation is a crucial task in numerous applications, such as registration [1], image-guided biopsy and therapy [2], automatic staging of stenoses in intravascular ultrasound (IVUS) diagnosis [3], detection of vessel boundaries to monitor cardiovascular diseases [4], and delineation of the cardiac structures [5], [6].
