Abstract:

This paper aims to address the voltage stability studies from different points of view. The voltage stability can be analyzed by many methodologies which may fundamentally be classified as dynamic analysis and static analysis. From the dynamic analysis point of view, the voltage of a conventional and a renewable generators is regulated using a PID controller. The TLBO optimization technique is used to tune the controller gains to minimize the generator's output voltage error and to improve the dynamic performance. From the static analysis point of view, the voltage of a 69-bus radial distribution system is regulated by allocating DGs at the system's busses. The same optimization technique, which is TLBO, is used to select the optimal size and location of the DG at the system under study.

I. Introduction

When it comes to power systems, voltage stability is a critical issue that has existed for many years. It can be defined as “After being subjected to a disturbance from a given initial operating state, it is the capacity of a power system to sustain steady voltages at all the system buses [1]. Voltage stability and voltage collapse have been a great subject of study. Despite the low possibility of voltage collapse, its effect is surely large. Several massive blackouts reportedly resulted from voltage collapse [2]. Voltage is a certain bus parameter. However, under certain conditions, voltage drop at a bus in the power system may have a significant effect on the overall system.
