I. Introduction
Roads are an important feature in many applications, such as land use analysis, vehicle navigation, and change in environmental parameters [1]–[3]. Currently, there exists a great demand for more accurate and up-to-date road information that can be gathered quickly [4]. High-resolution remote-sensing images enable the collection of images over large spatial areas using a relatively cheap, objective, and repetitive coverage method. In dangerous or inaccessible areas, remote-sensing techniques have been increasingly recognized as the only feasible method for extracting road information [5].
