Comparison of Computational Efficiencies of MoM Solutions for EFIE/CFIE Problems on Triangulated and Quadrilateral Geometries

This paper is intended to systematize the topology of quadrilaterals based on the previously proposed classical approach. We introduce an alternative representation of the generalized roof-top basis function (BF) for the method of moments (MoM) and consider the relationship between the edge-to-edge and face-to face calculation of matrix elements. Finally, we compare the computational efficiencies of triangular, quadrilateral and mixed meshes for the analysis of metallic, dielectric and combined (metallic and dielectric) geometries.

I. Introduction

Many scattering and radiation problems of electrodynamics can be formulated in terms of surface integral equations (SIE) [1]–[2] by enforcing the boundary conditions for electric or/and magnetic fields induced by unknown surface currents. These SIE can be discretized using the method of moments (MoM) [3], leading to various MoM-SIE modeling techniques [4]–[12].
