Abstract:

To achieve multi-Gbps throughput for 5G/B5G mobile communication for user terminals such as the smartphone and laptop computer, the multi-input-multi-output (MIMO) operation in sub6GHz band to support at least 4 MIMO streams or the high-gain beamforming operation in millimeter-wave band is promising. For such applications, the MIMO capacity/throughput testbed up to 14 MIMO streams and the millimeter-wave antenna throughput testbed have been developed at NSYSU for terminal antenna throughput verification and the measurement results will be presented. Some recently developed MIMO antenna design concepts will also be discussed.

I. Introduction

Multi-Gbps user experienced data rate anywhere anytime is an important vision for fifth-generation (5G) and also for beyond fifth-generation (B5G) mobile communication. Promising solutions for achieving multi-Gbps data throughput for user terminals such as the smartphone and laptop computer include using the sub-6GHz MIMO operation and the millimeter-wave high-gain beamforming communication (see Fig. 1 for the mobile communication vision to achieve more than 1 Gbps data throughput anywhere anytime).
