Abstract:

Harmonic pollution metering based on distortion indices are evaluated using field data obtained at a large industrial plant where the performance of harmonic filters is unknown. It is shown that by application of a fuzzy inference approach and a global harmonic distortion index, that a better understanding of contractual obligations to harmonic emission can be realized. Measurement uncertainty requires careful consideration when using field data. Tuning of fuzzy variables have to reflect the specific network under investigation.

I. Introduction

Distribution grids are evolving towards smarter distribution grids as the cost of renewable energy generation and storage at lower energy levels becomes more attractive. Technology to store energy at distribution system energy and voltage levels, are fast evolving as flow-battery and Li-Ion solutions mature and decrease in price. In developing countries, energy security is an important and additional factor stimulating the growth of grid-integrated renewable generation and local storage solutions.
