A review of finger vein biometrics authentication System

In nowadays, with the fast development in the field of electronic information technology, the identity verification and security of data is a critical main problem. Due to this fact, the biometric recognition has gaining popularity as it provides a high security, reliable and robust approach for personal identification. As a new biometric technique, finger vein recognition has attracted lots of attention from researchers. In this paper a survey has been done on finger vein biometrics recognition taken from existing research work on image preprocessing, feature extraction, classification stage and the performance parameter of biometric system the Equal Error Rate (EER). The main aim of this study is to enlighten finger vein authentication research domain.

I. Introduction

Biometrics is an emerging technique that enables us to verify the identity of an individual by using at least one of his or her personal characteristics [1]. The biometric systems are classified into three categories.biometric systems that are based on behavioral patterns such as handwriting and keystroke dynamics, that are based on physiological patterns such as fingerprint, face and iris and the systems that are based on hidden patterns such as the electrocardiogram (ECG) and MRI images [2]. Those systems somehow have several inconvenient; the features with age may not be clear for identification and can be easily stolen, lost or borrowed [3].A pattern of this type of biometric trait is fingerprint and voice [1], also iris recognition is considered as least user cause it is uneasiness to human eyes due to the brightness of light during the biometric capture process [4].MRI and ECG are expensive and complicated techniques [5], [7]. The handwriting is a natural and familiar way of confirming identity but not secure [7]. TABLE I show more detailed comparison between some previously mentioned biometric systems.
