Saturation Test Under High Current for Current Transformer Detection System Based on Lab VIEW

This paper presents an algorithm to precisely detect the saturation of Current Transformers (CTs). By using a virtual instrument experimental platform to measure the saturation characteristics of CTs which is implemented based on LABVIEW. This method can acquire and analyze the fault current on the primary side and secondary side of the CTs, and when detecting the saturation characteristics of CTs, it also can provide comparative data for the existing relay protection instruments. The effectiveness of this method is proved by experimental measurement.

I. Introduction

At present, the characteristic test of transformer is determined by indirect analysis method, that is the transformer characteristic test being carried out from the secondary side power supply mode. Although the current transformer characteristics of secondary side tests is easy to be implemented, but it is impossible to analyze the saturation and transient transmission characteristics of the current transformer under high current.^[1]
