Abstract:

In the distribution system, harmonic problem has become one of the major power quality (PQ) issues in recent time. In modern smart grid scenario, it is required to fix the responsibilities for the harmonic problem in the power supply. In this paper, a technique has been presented for harmonic source identification, which is based on total harmonic power (THP) method using estimation of signal parameters via signal rotational invariance technique (ESPRIT). Simulation results have been presented for radial and nonradial distribution system, which shows that the proposed method can identify harmonic source in a better way.

I. Introduction

With the increased development of semiconductor technology, harmonic distortion has turned to a grave concern for power entities, and many research works have been published for monitoring of harmonics [1]–[3]. National and international standards [4] put restriction on maximum voltage and current harmonics injection into the power system distribution and transmission systems.
