Abstract:

In this last decade, the wind energy has achieved a great expansion in the Brazilian energy matrix. Hence, the study and technology development in this area has become essential for academic community and industry. The aim of this paper is to describe the design, construction and commissioning of a 10(kVA) wind energy system (WECS) prototype converter, using permanent magnet synchronous machine. The design of the main components will be described. The first experimental results are shown and briefly analyzed.

I. Introduction

Wind energy currently has a prominent place in the Brazilian energy scenario, either because of its high development in the last decade or because of the large growth of this energy source in the Brazilian energy matrix. According to the EPE [1] the wind energy in 2016 represents 6.94% (about 10.5(GW)) of all electricity produced in the country.
