Abstract:

A microwave breast imaging system requires calibration for extracting the tumor response from measured data. We propose in-place calibration that can obtain a reference signal with a single measurement. In this paper, a time-domain microwave breast imaging experimental system is developed for the verification of in-place calibration. Restored images were obtained through two calibration methods: array rotation and in-place calibration. Both calibration methods found the tumor clearly at the exact location. In-place calibration showed better results in SMR and SCR.

I. Introduction

Microwave imaging has been of interest as a biomedical imaging application. In particular, breast cancer detection with microwave imaging has been studied actively [1]–[4]. Microwave breast imaging depends on comparing the electrical properties between normal and cancerous tissues.
