I. Introduction
In the fields of electrical engineering, architecture, and mechanical engineering, different graphic notations or symbols are used to prepare engineering drawings. Text-graphics separation and graphics recognition are two most common works that are found in the literature. Besides these two, there exists some work on recognition of electrical symbols in a digitized document image after text-graphics separation. However, no work has been reported till date on identification of the series and the parallel connections in an electrical circuit in order to understand and reduce the circuit complexity. Reduction in the topological complexity of a circuit, which is addressed in our work, can help in circuit decomposition and circuit matching.
