Video error concealment for in-vehicle IP-based wireless networks

In this paper, a novel video error concealment technique is presented. More specifically, for IP-based in-vehicle wireless networks, a robust video error concealment technique is proposed based on residual errors and boundary matching approach. Residual errors are used for checking reliability of motion vectors of coding units and a boundary matching algorithm is used for maintaining smoothness in block boundaries. For boundary matching, a downhill simplex approach is adopted in the proposed approach. Although the simulation is preliminary, experimental results show that the proposed approach is promising.

I. Introduction

Nowadays, vehicles are getting intelligent quicker than we thought and in-vehicle wireless technologies are becoming hot issues in automotive industry. Various wireless technologies such as Zigbee, UWB, and wireless LANs have been investigated to see the possibility of replacing in-vehicle wired networks by wireless networks [1], [4]. Due to advances in multimedia streaming technologies, multimedia services that are already popular in homes and campuses are being deployed in vehicles for drivers/passengers safety and entertainments [5], [6].
