Abstract:

We propose a new detector for multiuser communications, which is based on the maximum-likelihood decision rule and uses a genetic algorithm in conjunction with a modified Viterbi algorithm to detect the user bits sequentially. The major advantage of the proposed detector is that it provides a trade-off between performance and computational complexity. Simulation results show that the proposed detector achieves similar performance to that of two well-known suboptimal linear detectors with a lower computational complexity.
