Investigations of electrode displacement on high voltage capacitor with FEM

This work describes the studies of the behavior of the electrodes of high voltage compressed capacitor using finite element method (FEM). This study is important to determine the voltage coefficient and evaluate the dependence of the capacitance with the voltage change. It is estimated the displacement of low-voltage electrode and its relation with the variation of capacitance

I. Introduction

In the high voltage measurement laboratories, the compressed gas standard capacitors are used for the calibration of capacitors and potential transformers. The variation of the capacitance of capacitors to gas are affected by some parameters, such as the voltage change, temperature change, gas pressure, etc. This work examines the variation of capacitance with the voltage by displacement of the electrodes. It is used like a model a standard capacitor of 200 kV in SF6 of LAMAT-INMETRO. Fig. 1.
