I. Introduction
Transmission-Line protection systems require reliable detection, classification, and location of faults as well as the isolation of only the faulted section as quickly as possible. However, information from the power frequency component, extracted through the conventional protection, does not provide a high-speed fault detection, whereas fault-induced transients with a typical frequency spectrum from a few hundred Hertz to various kilohertz can provide extensive information about the fault type, detection, location, and direction [1], [2] for fast operation of relays in transmission lines.
