Abstract:

Various applications using a camera system have been developed and deployed commercially to improve our daily life. The performance of camera system are mainly dependent on image quality and illumination conditions. Multiband camera has been developed to provide a wealth of information for image acquisition. In this paper, we developed an application using a multiband camera, which is available in four bands consisting of a near infrared and three color bands. We presented a face detection using multiband camera system to utilize two different images i.e. color image extracted from Bayer filter and near infrared images. The experimental results showed the effectiveness of the proposed system.

I. INTRODUCTION

Recently a multiband camera is developed for the purpose of integrating a color camera and a near infrared camera. An input image of the multiband camera, which is called a multi-band image, is available in four bands consisting of a band of near infrared and three bands of color. Multiband cameras are divided into two types, one is a Bayer filter type and another is a prism-based type. Between the two types, Kidono et al. [1] had developed a Bayer filter type directly, which are improved from single-chip digital color cameras. On the other hand, the prism-based type offers clearly separated multi-spectral images both visible and near infrared portions of the spectrum. Du et al. [2] propose a prism-based system for capturing multi-spectral videos.
