I. Introduction
Recently, the capability to process and analyze large amounts of data effectively has given rise to significant improvements in diverse scientific disciplines. Data intensive computing emerged as a topic to address the growing need of big-data processing. Its challenge is to provide the hardware architectures and related software systems and techniques which are able to transform large data into valuable knowledge. The applications of data intensive computing cover various fields that involves processing of large amounts of data. A typical application is called computed tomography (CT) [1], which has been an established technology to noninvasively image the inner structure of objects in three dimentions (3D).
