Zvi Shiller (S'85–M'87) received the B.Sc. degree from Tel-Aviv University, Tel-Aviv, Israel, in 1976, and the M.S. and Sc.D. degrees from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Cambridge, in 1984 and 1987, respectively, all in mechanical engineering.
Since 2002, he has been a Professor with the Department of Mechanical Engineering and Mechatronics, Ariel University Center, Ariel, Israel, of which he was the Founding Chair until 2010. He is also the director of the Paslin Laboratory for Robotics and Autonomous Vehicles. Before joining the Ariel University Center, he served 14 years with the faculty of the Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering Department, University of California, Los Angeles, where he led the teaching and research activities in robotics and directed the Laboratory for Robotics and Automation. From 1978 to 1982, he worked as a Design Engineer for the Israeli Aircraft Industries, Israel. His research interests include robot motion planning, time-optimal motion trajectory planning, high-speed obstacle avoidance, navigation and trajectory planning of off-road vehicles, and dynamic stability and control of autonomous road vehicles.
Prof. Shiller is the Founding Chair of the Israeli Robotics Association, and was the General Chair of the Israeli Conference on Robotics (ICR) in 2008 and 2010.
