I. Introduction

With the explosive growth of internet data traffic due to the FTTH penetration and prevalence of social network service, the demand for the higher bandwidth is ever increasing. Cloud network service starts to be dominant and intra- and inter-data center traffic is expected to increase at tremendous pace. To accommodate ultra high bandwidth traffic in data center, 100G Ethernet standardization has completed in 2010[1] and CFP transceivers are on the verge of introduction in the market. However, for a limited space of a line card in the data center, port density is another important factor. To accommodate these requirements, 1 st generation CFP type 100G Ethernet transceiver is not adequate because only 4 CFP transceivers can fit in a line card. More compact next generation modules such as CFP2 and CFP4 are investigated in CFP-MSA.[2]. For a CFP2 type module which is 63% smaller compared to CFP module, much more compact 100G TOSA and ROSA are required. In this presentation, the development of compact 100G TOSA and ROSA is presented.
