Abstract:

The Towed Radar Active Decoy (TRAD) is an essential way to counter the mono-pulse radar seeker, both ground to air and air to air. It has some successful battle documentation, but the actual effect is usually limited by multiple factor. This thesis briefly introduced the mechanism of TRAD, some key parameters related to its effectiveness are analyzed, such as the equivalent radiation power, the cable length and the off target distance. Finally, the conclusion is proposed, which is useful to engineering application direction.

I. Introduction

The technique of mono-pulse angle tracking is widely used for Radar guided weapons (such as active or semi-active seekers), and with the ability of frequency agile or home-on-jam, mono-pulse radars are difficult and expensive to jam. The traditional onboard electronic counter measures(safe protect measures), which has good performance when countering to the airborne fire control radars, will be ineffective as both the jamming signal and the target echo are in the same position, and will be easily tracked by the seeker. In this situation, angle deception is very necessary.
