I. Introduction
Brushless DC MOTORS (BLDCM) have higher efficiency than induction machines and a higher speed bandwidth and lower maintenance than dc brush motors [1], [2]. Single-phase BLDCMs are less expensive and easier to manufacture compared to three-phase BLDCMs, and are widely used in low-cost and low-power applications such as fan motors for pumps. However, it exhibits zero torque points at certain rotor positions. Even though these dead points could be avoided by applying an asymmetric air gap, this deteriorates motor characteristics in torque and efficiency.
