I. Introduction
THE European Space Agency (ESA) has accredited four laboratories to the European Component Irradiation Facilities group. These are the ESTEC Co-60 facility (ECF) in the Netherlands [1], the Proton Irradiation Facility (PIF) in the Paul Scherrer Institute, Switzerland [2], the Heavy Ion Facility (HIF) at the Cyclotron Research Center of the Catholic University of Louvain, in Belgium [3], and the Radiation Effect Facility (RADEF) located at the Accelerator Laboratory of the University of Jyvaskyla, Finland [4]. Heavy ion irradiations are performed in the two of the latter ones and they both utilize nearly the same ions: HIF (α, N, B, C, Ne, Si, Ar, Ni, Kr, Xe) and RADEF (N, Ne, Si, Ar, Fe, Kr, Xe). The common ions are highlighted.
