Abstract:

This paper concentrates on the modeling and control of three-phase stand-alone photovoltaic (PV) generation system. The system is mainly composed of a solar array, dc/dc boost converter, three-phase inverter, system controller, and an output load. Sliding mode controllers are used for boost converter and three-phase inverter to achieve the maximum power output, regulated DC voltage, and the desired output voltage. All the analysis, controller design, and simulation results will be described in this paper in detail. Moreover, the simulation results will show that the PV generation system can be properly operated to achieve a fast dynamic response and robustness to parameters variation. In addition, the achievement of this study can provide a valuable reference for the development of distributed generation source in the microgrid system in the future.

I. Introduction

DUE to the depletion of fossil energy and environmental protection issues, renewable energy such as the wind and the solar energy have been widely used for a few decades [1]. Specially, the solar energy has the advantages of free, no pollution, low maintenance cost, distributed through the earth, and no noise due to the absence of the moving parts. Two principal types of PV power system exist, which are classified by their functions and configuration, namely: one is standalone system and the other is grid-connected system [2]–[5]. The operation of stand-alone PV systems is suitable for low power application. On the other hands, grid-connected system is mainly used for high power application independent of the electric utility grid.
