Mobility robustness optimization based on UE mobility for LTE system

Self-organizing networks (SON) for cellular systems are emerging as an important technology to reduce the cost of network deployment and maintenances. Mobility robustness optimization (MRO) is one of the main use cases of SON and has been intensively studied in 3GPP working groups. In this paper, we take the user equipment (UE) speed into account to solve the MRO problem. We propose a US-MRO algorithm, which assigns different Hysteresis parameters to UEs with different speed. The simulation results show that the success rate of Handover (HO) is improved and user experience is enhanced by the US-MRO algorithm.

I. Introduction

As an evolution of 3G cellular system, the study item for LTE was approved at the 3GPP meeting held on 2004 in Toronto. Compared to the 3G systems, LTE system is improved in many technical aspects, such as physical layer air interface technologies, multiple access technology, multi-antenna technology, scheduling, and network architecture. In March 2010, 3GPP completed its specification of the Release 9 version of LTE, and started the specification of the Release 10 version, which is also known as LTE-system and one of the most popular candidates for ITU 4G standard.
