Abstract:

In this paper, a total of 13 parameters were studied and automatically extracted to differentiate the asthmatic and non-asthmatic capnogram. From the results, slope ratio (SR) and the newly introduced Hjorth Parameters (HP2 - Mobility) are the best among the investigated parameters in differentiating the two groups. Results show that parameters that associate with the slope of the capnogram are good index in differentiating the asthmatic and non-asthmatic capnogram.

1. Introduction

Asthma is a condition of inflammation of the airway and bronco spasm. Asthma is a common chronic disease throughout the world. According to Global Initiative for Asthma (GINA), a group collaborated with World Health Organization, 300 million asthmatic cases were reported in 2004 and the figure is expected to increase over the years [10]. The current method used in monitoring the asthma condition is by using a device called Peak Flow Meter [1].
