Abstract:

According to the interworking authentication trends, this paper has proposed a novel reference of interworking AAA architecture among 3GPP, WiMAX and WLANs. Moreover, based on the proposed architecture, a hierarchy AAA mobility management architecture is brought forward, as well as a dynamic reorganizing management scheme authentication domain. Finally, the simulation results show that the total cost of the authentication process is reduced drastically by using the hierarchy AAA architecture and dynamic reorganizing management scheme.

I. Introduction

Generally speaking, the most popular wireless access networks can be classified into two categories currently. One can provide high data rates, but have limited coverage, such as WiMAX (Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access) and WLAN. The other has wide coverage and limited bandwidth, such as PLMN (Public Land Mobile Network) and UMTS. However, it is well known that the most efficient method to overcome their shortcomings and to enhance their strong points is to combine the two groups together. Moreover, the -interworking of WiMAX, WLAN and 3GPP (The third Generation Partnership Project) is becoming a very important section in the future heterogeneous telecommunication. As a result, it is very necessary to make an interworking AAA (Authentication, Authorization and Accounting) system for billing and authenticate the users.
