I. Introduction
THESE days show an increasing interest by research and industry in future Internet and its management. In USA, there are initiatives like Future Internet Design (FIND) and Globe Environment for Network Innovation (GENI); in Europe, there is the Future Internet Research and Experimentation (FIRE) program; and in Japan, there is the New Generation Network (NGN) project. As to these studies, approaches range from “evolutionary”, in which evolution happens around IP while maintains the majority of current Internet thinking, to “revolutionary”, in which the core protocols are redesigned from scratch, using the so-called clean-slate design approaches. Although many of these initiatives consider network management as an important research area that should be an integral part for the design of future Internet instead of just being an “add-on” capability, it is still unclear how this management should look like.
