I. Introduction
SIMILARITY analysis and various kinds of comparisons between a number of images represent the most often tasks in the fast growing research area of image processing and analysis [1], [2], [3]. This is a very specific type of activity where it is often the case that humans are performing better compared to the available computerized systems. Among the different reasons for such results are the obvious complexity and vagueness of the problem itself and also the variety of the possible criteria that could be used for the comparisons and for the similarity analysis. Nevertheless a “good”, plausible solution to the problem of proper evaluation of the similarity is a key factor for a success in many applications such as visual search through a large amount of image information, and its proper sorting and classification.
