Contents On behalf of the Honorary Chair, Prof. Dr. Tao Zhan, the TPC Chair, Prof. Dr. Josef A. Nossek, and the IWCLD 2007 Organizing Committee, I'd like to warmly welcome you to attend the First International Workshop on Cross Layer Design (IWCLD 2007) in our beautiful spring city, Jinan.
In recently years, cross-layer design has become a challenging topic in which more and more researchers are engaged. People is trying to find out best ways to optimize the performance or to minimize the source needed of communication networks. Different approaches have been proposed by persons with different research background. But, why these approaches? What is the advantage of one compared to others? We need discussion and intercourse. We need a special workshop! This is the initial motivation to organize this workshop. It is our great honor to organize and host IWCLD 2007 at Shandong University. This workshop provides a forum for researchers from academia, industry to present new ideas, valuable work, and ongoing research on cross-layer design. Reflecting intensive interest in this topic, IWCLD 2007 received 93 paper submissions. After serious peer reviews, 43 papers have finally been accepted and edited into the proceedings. Besides, 2 invited lectures by distinguished experts in cross layer-design will also be presented at IWCLD 2007. So we definitely believe that the workshop will be a great success.
The success of the preparatory work of this workshop owns much to the support from: IEEE, IEEE Communication Society, IEEE Beijing Section, Association for Electrical, Electronic & Information Technologies (VDE ITG), Technical University of Munich, National Natural Science Foundation of China, and Information Industry Department of Shandong Province. I would like to give my special thanks to the Honorary Chair: Prof. Dr. Tao Zhan, the General Co-Chair: Prof. Mengqi Zhou, the TPC Chair: Prof. Dr. Josef A. Nossek and the TPC Co-Chair: Prof. Dr. Miguel A. Lagunas for their support and contributions to the workshop. I sincerely thank all the TPC members and reviewers for their devotion and precious time in preparing the technical program. I also sincerely thank all the Organization Committee members and Finance Committee members for their dedications of time, efforts and expertise in the detailed preparation and organization of this workshop.
