I. Introduction
As mobile multimedia devices become popular, a considerable research effort has been focused on designing the mobile display devices for various multimedia applications. Fig. 1 shows a typical display system for mobile multimedia devices. A low-power design is critical because mobile devices such as cellular phones, PDAs, portable game consoles, and portable media players use a battery as the source of power. Also, a small form factor is important for reducing the size and cost of the systems. Since most of the mobile displays offer rather low resolution because of their small size for the portability, the dot-clock frequency is reduced compared with typical display devices used in PC monitors or laptop computers. Furthermore, the length of a transmission line is rather short in mobile display applications.
