Comments on "Physics Performance of the Barrel RPC System of the HARP Experiment

It is shown that the above cited paper reports a detector performance that is inconsistent and cannot possibly be correct. The unknown detector physics that has been invoked to explain strange findings is an artefact stemming from wrong data analysis.

I. Introduction

We refer to the paper entitled “Physics Performance of the Barrel RPC System of the HARP Experiment” that has recently been published in IEEE Transactions on Nuclear Science [1]. The paper describes a ‘Physics Performance’ which implies that the reported detector performance is used to produce physics results.
