Abstract:

The authors presented an automated method of power system fault diagnosis which can be incorporated in the station computer of an integrated control and protection system. The effectiveness of this method is demonstrated using a transmission-level substation as an example. The examples presented demonstrate that the proposed method can be a valuable tool in enhancing the diagnostic capability of the substation computer. The decentralized approach of fault diagnosis using the substation computer aids the operator in making correct decisions during the fault diagnosis of a power system and enables faster restoration after an emergency.<>
