Abstract:
Beginning in 1935 a joint study of radio transmission has been in progress. This involved radio measurements in Argentina and the United States, co-ordinated with similar measurements in Europe. A remarkable anomaly in long-distance broadcast transmission had been indicated by certain observations in 1932, viz, much lower received wave intensities for transmission across the North Atlantic Ocean between Europe and North America than for transmission over the same distances within North America or Europe or Asia. The present study was made to determine what happens on transmission paths between South America and the other continents and has yielded an explanation of the North Atlantic anomaly.
