Abstract:

The server enables Web access to distributed measurement/control systems and provides a scalable networking solution that is optimized for educational laboratories, instrumentation, and industrial and home automation. Users can monitor and control transducers on active Web pages enhanced with JavaScript and Java. The server makes integration of a new system as easy as connecting I2C devices and creating a new Web page

I. Introduction

Web-enabled systems have offered great promise to education and science, businesses, and consumers. Their benefits are well known.

Reduction of operating and maintenance costs due to remote monitoring, diagnostics, debugging, and upgrading firmware [1]–[3]

Virtual educational laboratories for distance learning that provide flexible schedules and create new educational opportunities at a limited cost [3]–[6]

Convenience and safety that comes with the ability to monitor the status of a smart house and to control Internet appliances when away from home [1], [7]–[9]

Remote monitoring of residential and industrial properties, notification of emergency services in case of fire, theft, and a leak of liquid or gas [8], [10]–[12]
