I. Introduction
Over the past two decades permanent magnet synchronous machines (PMSMs) have attracted considerable attentions from various sectors of industry. This is due to their high efficiency, high torque to inertia ratio, ease of maintenance and control to name a few. Although a favorite from many aspects, the problem of acoustic noise and vibration in this family of machines remains as a challenge which potential undermines the suitability of their application in noise sensitive applications. As a result, the study of electromagnetic forces in PMSMs has attracted considerable attention over the past decade [1]–[12].
