Abstract:
The authors introduce an architecture for a special-purpose diagnostic processor, designed specifically to interact as a coprocessor with the onboard controller(s) on the vehicle. The processor considers the structure of model-based failure detection algorithms and the need for simulating the dynamics of vehicle subsystems in order to monitor their performance, and it processes the information provided by onboard sensors to diagnose sensor or actuator malfunctions. The diagnostic information is available both to the controller for possible system reconfiguration and to repair technicians for service bay applications. A design example on the failure detection and isolation controller is discussed to demonstrate the feasibility of the implementation procedure.<>
