Abstract:

Frequency deviations in a regime of high rate current fluctuations in distributed feedback (DFB) and grating coupler sample reflector (GCSR) lasers are measured using novel statistical frequency discrimination technique. Thermal time constants of the order of nanoseconds are observed in both.

Introduction

We examine the effects of thermal transients caused by current injection on laser frequency in directly modulated DFB laser and fast tunable GCSR lasers.
