Experiment and Effect of SPOC Teaching Design in Higher Vocational Colleges

SPOC is a network online teaching form with the development of modern electronic computer technology. Compared with MOOC, SPOC is more suitable for the teaching activities of college students. Through teaching experiments in vocational colleges, it is shown that: from the perspective of a course teaching process, the teaching effect and teaching cycle under SPOC teaching are basically proportional. For students at school, the learning cycle is controlled at 16–18 weeks, which not only conforms to the length of half a school year, but also can achieve the best teaching effect. The teaching effect is best when the weekly teaching duration is controlled at 50–70 minutes. When designing the teaching curriculum, teachers should control the difficulty of knowledge at a reasonable level, because too simple knowledge will make students have no motivation to actively carry out online learning, and too difficult knowledge will cause students to lose their heads during online learning. SPOC teaching should focus on teacher-student interaction. It can be determined that teacher-student interaction classroom is more conducive to students' contact with deeper and more high-level knowledge than traditional classroom. One form of strengthening teacher-student interaction is to use flipped classroom activities. Teachers also need to use flipped classroom teaching forms in SPOC teaching. The proportion of online teaching in the overall teaching activities should not be more than half, and the proportion of online teaching in the overall teaching activities should not be too high. When the time of online teaching activities exceeds the time of offline teaching activities, the teaching effect will decline significantly.

1. SPOC Teaching Form and Its Development Background

SPOC, short for Small Private Online Course, is a small-scale restricted online course. Small and Private are relative to the Massive and Open in MOOC. Small refers to the number of students ranging from dozens to hundreds. Private refers to the setting of restrictive access conditions for students. Only those who meet the requirements can be included in SPOC courses. In 2013, Professor Armando Fox of California Berkeley University in the United States proposed SPOC teaching form. ^[1] MOOC and SPOC are the main online teaching forms. MOOC, the abbreviation of massive open online courses, is a large-scale open online classroom teaching. M stands for large scale. Different from the regular classroom with 30 or 50 people, one MOE course often has thousands or tens of thousands of people; The first O represents openness, and anyone who wants to learn can learn Mukden; The second O represents online, and learning is completed online, not limited by time and space; C stands for the meaning of the course.
