Abstract:

Information and communication technologies allow us to develop solutions and applications in different areas of knowledge; one of them is related to the monitoring of the planet, in this line, in the use of satellite images to monitor land cover use. The lagoons are a source of water for most of the people who live in high Andean areas, these areas are surrounded by mountain ranges that make access very difficult, and therefore, being able to know the state of the lagoons is a very good option for people to take measures for their maintenance and conservation. To this problem can add a mechanism to find a characteristic value that is related to its size and thus to determine the amount of water it can contain, helps to measure the use and to provide mechanisms to ensure its conservation. In this article, A method is presented to evaluate the situational status of high Andean lagoons, by processing images and calculating the fractal dimension, in order to know the state of the lagoon, using satellite images.

I. Introduction

A review of the literature found works related to the use of fractal techniques, as well as the calculation and use of the Fractal Dimension. Among them find works where urban areas are beginning to be located within the coastal settlements, where the fractal evolution and land use was investigated using fractal theory, the fractal dimensions were calculated with the intention of quantifying its spatial complexity, complemented by applying a linear model to describe the evolution of the fractal dimension of the different uses of coastal settlements, the results should provide the theoretical basis for the evolution of fractal characteristics[1].
