Machine learning based intelligent wardrobe system for apparel recommendation and organization

Fashion and clothing are a way of life. People of all age groups spend much time on choosing the right apparel to appear presentable. It is important to wear outfits that are appropriate for the occasion. This paper presents the design of a machine learning based intelligent wardrobe system to provide hassle-free access of the wardrobe to the user. The system design helps the user in apparel selection by providing suggestions depending on the occasion and weather conditions. The proposed system tracks the record of usage of clothes and uses a machine learning algorithm to prevent repetitive selection of a particular piece for garment. The system also advises the user regarding the time to discard a particular apparel depending upon its usage. Thus, this intelligent wardrobe system provides a one of its kind solutions to all the wardrobe related problems.

I. Introduction

In today’s world, fashion and style plays a very important role in everyone’s life [1]. Every morning, there comes a question regarding what to wear. There are lots of clothes hanging in our closet, but the problem is that we are not able to keep a track of the clothes that we had already worn few days back. Sometimes it happens that we keep on wearing the same set of clothes frequently while the few pair of clothes is seldom worn. It may sometimes happen that you may wear the same set of clothes for the two consecutive office meetings or party [2]. The clothes which are frequently worn get torn soon but the clothes that are rarely worn remain as new. Our clothes get deformed according to their usage and need to be discarded after certain period of time. The organization of clothes in the wardrobe is also a big challenge. So, there is a need of a system that can keep a track of clothes in the wardrobe as well as keep a record of the date and event when the attire was worn.
