Polymer Optical Waveguide Coupler with Vertically Bent Cores

In this paper, polymer optical waveguides with 90-degree bent GI cores are fabricated using the Mosquito method. Material combinations that allow the formation of GI cores even with a diameter as large as $\mathbf{70}\ \boldsymbol{\mu} \boldsymbol{m}$ are screened. By further adjusting the interim time, the desired parabolic GI core can be fabricated to realize a low-loss coupling device.

I. Introduction

In recent years, the rapid increase in the Internet traffic has led to a requirement for increased processing power in data center networks. Hence, optical interconnect technology is attracting attention. Currently, optical fiber links have already been introduced to the links between boards and racks, while the implementation of optical links in the on-board areas near LSIs and between chips is one of the technical issues.
