A Carbon Emission Measurement Method and Module System for the Steel Industry

The steel industry in China is a key industry supporting the national economy. However, it also has the characteristics of large energy consumption and high emission. To meet the low-carbon economic developing tendency, the steel industry is confronted with huge pressure for energy conservation and emission reduction. Based on the analysis of the production technology and technological features, we study the direct carbon emission and the indirect carbon emissions in the process, and analyze the factors affecting the carbon emissions of steel enterprises; refine the carbon emission factors of the grid in time dimension for different energy consumption patterns of steel enterprises, and establish an enterprise carbon emission accounting model, so as to realize a refined carbon footprint measurement study. Ultimately, it will help steel enterprises to develop effective energy-saving and emission abatement plans to realize sustainability objectives.

I. Introduction

With the environmental problems becoming increasingly serious, the problem of Climate change due to CO₂ and other greenhouse gas emissions is of great concern at home and abroad, as well as the most serious problem at present. With the growing steel production in China and the aggravation of global warming problem, China has put forward the “double carbon” strategic goal in the international arena. In order to achieve this goal, China's steel enterprises must assume a huge responsibility for carbon emission reduction, change the original direction of development, adhere to the route of low carbon emissions, low petrochemical dependence, high energy efficiency [1]. Under the pressure of increasingly urgent CO₂ emission reduction, is very important in practice to solve the contradiction between CO₂ emission reduction and the overall development of the steel industry [2].
